A production version is a combination of a Bill of Materials (BOM) and Routing.
BOM consists of the components and the consumption of those components required to manufacture a product.
Routing details the activities needed to manufacture a product.
For a given product, different components can be used for manufacturing, and alternative BOMs can be created in SAP for these substitute components.
Multiple alternative BOMs can exist for a given product.
Similarly, different methods or sequences of activities for manufacturing a product can be maintained as alternative routings or routing groups.
SAP Production Version is used to group different combinations of BOM and routings, allowing production to be carried out based on material availability and resources.
