Should I choose SAP Basis or SAP BI?

Major upgrades and installations will always be planned during Diwali or Christmas holidays. SAP BI, is more of a job of Business Analyst. Basically, you will dig into the vast amount of Business Warehouse data and create fantastic reports.

Since I have been SAP Basis & Security for a number of years, let me answer that.

  1. SAP Basis & Security is interesting and vast. Let me tell you, it is not a 9 to 5 job. In fact, you will have to work on most holidays. Any Production System-related issue will always be done on weekly offs. Major upgrades and installations will always be planned during Diwali or Christmas holidays. I am not discouraging you, but this is a fact. But if you have the passion then pursue it. This role is more a back-office activity and exposure to other functions are minimal.
  2. SAP BI, is more of a job of Business Analyst. Basically, you will dig into the vast amount of Business Warehouse data and create fantastic reports. You will be able to understand the business and also interact with the Top Management. Your reports will help the management to make critical decisions. This is a cool option and people will know you across the company.
