Which career has more scope, recruitment or HR generalist?

a recruiter will never have enough knowledge of majority of the HR processes for example, Talent Management, Performance management etc. It is more of a specialization within HR.

An HR generalist is someone who has tasted almost every sub function within the HR function, recruitment being one of them because an HR Business partner does get involved in recruitment in some of its stages.

An HR recruiter too never works in isolation. It is dependent on the strategic decisions of HR. But a recruiter will never have enough knowledge of majority of the HR processes for example, Talent Management, Performance management etc. It is more of a specialization within HR.

For a good growth, it is advised from majority of senior people that one should be a good HR generalist first. After having a strong hold on the holistic knowledge of HR one can plan to specialise in subfunctions like recruitment, compensation and benefit etc in the later years. An HR generalist role is therefore desired by many young and new HR professionals. They also get to know what specifically in HR they want to take up in their later lives. Most of the generalists end up at very senior positions like HR head or VP HR etc.

But for a recruiter her/his career becomes more directed towards recruitment. One can climb up the ladder within recruitment but it becomes very difficult to get into general HR roles.
