I am shortlisted for Infosys. Next is an HR interview. What are the tips you can give me?

Indian companies charge a very large hourly fee to the foreign client including shift allowance & transport charges. What you end up getting paid is very low. That's the very business model of the Indian companies.

HR round is about package discussions and understanding company policies.

Ask for a good package. Don't undervalue yourself. Ensure you ask questions about the leave policy, insurance, transport facility, shift allowance, etc.

Negotiate hard. Don't settle for a meager amount just because you need a job. Your decision will impact many others too. Get paid based on your skill.

If you are an experienced resource, then remember, your previous package has nothing to do with the current offer. So if the HR asks, your previous package is 3.5 lacs, you are now demanding 17 lacs, why such a big hike? Remember, it's not a hike. It's called a hike if you are employed with that new company. You are not, so technically it's not a hike. It's the charges for the services you are offering to the company. The new package demand is based on your skill. By asking your current package, they are putting you in an awkward position by not letting you ask for a proper package.

Just remember, Indian companies charge a very large hourly fee to the foreign client including shift allowance & transport charges. What you end up getting paid is very low. That's the very business model of the Indian companies. For example, if they charge x dollars or pounds or yens, what you get paid is less than or around 5–10% of it. The rest of it goes to the company as profits + their expenses like electricity, infra costs, etc.

Finally, a simple logic. If a person working in the USA gets paid 50,000 dollars per annum for a simple call center job, thats basically 42 lakh rupees in Indian currency. An Indian person gets paid around 3 lakhs for the same call center job, per annum. So if that American job gets outsourced to India, use your imagination and calculate yourself the amount of profit the company enjoys vs what you get paid.

Dont get me wrong, the companies work very hard to get jobs to India. They also participate in auctions, sales, good lobbying practices, negotiations to get business to India. They should make good profit. But they should also pay well. You should negotiate well.
