What are tough questions asked in an interview?

This is one the the tricky but simplest question that I faced twice in my life. Once in class X and next time at my interview during campus recruitment process of Wipro.

This is one the the tricky but simplest question that I faced twice in my life. Once in class X and next time at my interview during campus recruitment process of Wipro. Though I wasn’t able to answer that question when I was in Class X, but thanks to Mr. Kanhaiya Thakur(My Chemistry teacher at school) who asked and gave the solution of this question.

so, here’s the scenario during my interview for Wipro. ~

INTERVIEWER: You have answered most of my technical questions correctly. But, this is not enough. I’d like to ask you some puzzles. Are you ready?

ME: Yes sir, sure!! I would love to solve you puzzles.

INTERVIEWER: Okay. Suppose, there’s an amoeba which gets doubled every next second. I put an amoeba in the bucket. It took exactly 56 seconds for the bucket to get full.

Tell me, in how many seconds would have the bucket got quarter-full?

(Yeah, I knew the answer. I had once gone through such question in class X. Instead of getting excited that I know the answer, I acted as if I was thinking. I took near about 15 seconds and then…)

ME: 54 seconds sir. (and smiled)

INTERVIEWER : Can you explain how?

ME: sir, you told that it gets doubled every next second. This means, if it was full in 56 seconds, then it must have been half at 55th second. So, it will take 54 seconds for the bucket to get quarter full ( in 54th sec, bucket wall 1/4 full…in next sec it get doubled and bucket was half filled at 55th sec and so full in 56 second)

INTERVIEWER(smiling) : Good!! well explained. You are well prepared for this interview. I’m sending a good feedback to HR panel for you next round. Good Luck.

ME: Thank you sir. :)

And no reward for guessing that I got selected in next round too :P ~

Thanks for reading. Hope someday this may be useful to you too.
