How do I explain an year gap for the interview in MBA college?

one way of answering this question would be to direct it to something you are passionate about and you can answer questions on the same.

One Year’s gap is not a big deal nowadays with students taking multiple years gap to prepare for entrance exam. We have had a student with 4 years gap post his graduation being able to clear interview of one of the top 10 MBA institute. It is important that you need to showcase the gap in a positive light.

Understand that one of the ways to crack an interview is to direct the interview to an area where one is strong at or is comfortable with and then ensure that you impress the panelist in that area. This can be done if there is something you are passionate about.

So one way of answering this question would be to direct it to something you are passionate about and you can answer questions on the same. This could be hobby like music, cooking, reading, etc or something that you are interested in like technology, sports, etc. Usually the case is that if you show passion or expertise in one area, the chances of you clearing the interview increases drastically.

One way to answer would be to tell the panelist that one of things you were doing was pursuing your passion during that year so that the interview can be directed to that area.

If you do not have any specific area where you want the panelist to ask you questions, then try and showcase that you have been learning some skills / knowledge during that year by giving specific examples. Try to learn those skills before you go for the interview.
