How do you rate yourself in a skill when asked in an interview?

It is basically based on the factor of whether I can justify both with application and knowledge or not.

To look and be real I often describe it based on my skills and the amount of exposure I have because of it.

Rating 10/10 kind of put extra pressure on us, also I set two kinds of feelings within the mind of the interviewer, whether we’re boasting a lot or we’re confident enough.

So even if we’re highly confident of the skill, we need to put it under 9, to make it believable and to be able to answer questions based on it.

To make it more concise:

  • Before an Interview be ready with your SWOT analysis, because the better you are aware of yourself the better it is to convey to others in an honest way.
  • Whatever you say, just don’t say it for the sake of saying it, provide some context and valid references as well.
  • Always provide a gap between skills and yourself, and present yourself as a learner. Don’t hype what you know, be humble and show some scope to improve further.
  • Each job interview has its requirements, so stating skills accordingly can help a lot.

I hope you find these points useful.
