In an interview I messed up on a question, will I still get the job? It was only one question

Handling mistakes is an integral part of most jobs so if you messed up one question but handled it correctly it could actually increase your chances of getting a job offer.

Very few job interview questions, if any, are a one strike and you are out type of question. In general perfection is not expected from job applicants and a perfect interview could actually raise suspicions.

Your reaction to the situation is as important as the question itself. Handling mistakes is an integral part of most jobs so if you messed up one question but handled it correctly it could actually increase your chances of getting a job offer.

Also, if you don’t get the job don’t blame it on the one question that you messed up. There is a very good chance that you did not perform as well as you think on other parts of the interview and you will repeat these mistakes in the future if you assume that the rejection was based on one mistake only.
