What does HR expect from freshers during interviews?

As a student, your primary duty is to study and marks are a quantitative criteria to figure out it. Good CGPA means that you’ve been sincere and have taken your college and exams with utmost sincerity.

Well that’s a very general question. There are a lot of parameters on which a candidate in evaluated.

Some of the important parameters considered by HRs while hiring freshers are listed below with the kind of questions asked to check those traits:

  1. Subject Knowledge- What you have learned in your summer training, What is your favourite subject? And then follow up questions from that.
  2. Positive Attitude - What if you are not selected in this interview?
  3. Right Body Language- (While you answer make proper eye contact, seat comfortably yet firmly… don’t lean back on the chair)
  4. Sincere- ( Why you have got less CGPA in college?) - As a student, your primary duty is to study and marks are a quantitative criteria to figure out it. Good CGPA means that you’ve been sincere and have taken your college and exams with utmost sincerity. Though, if you got into interview; you won’t be rejected for less CGPA, if you can justify it.
  5. Open to change and willing to take up anything what is enthrusted to them (Will you like to work in Development only or would like to also work in testing, support when need be)
  6. Curiosity (When interviewer asks at the end, Any questions??…Show your curiosity and ask thoughtful questions)
  7. Interest in the job and their organisation- (What do you know about our company?, What do you think is the job requirement?)
  8. Ability to handle pressure and stress ( Stress Interview questions are asked to check this. Example- Your resume looks awful. Why you came for the interview just like that?)- Now calmly handle it positively.
  9. Communication skills- Communication skills doesn’t means just talking fluently in English. Even if you fumble here and there and have not so perfect english, you’ll be selected for any engineering role if you meet other criterias. However, if you’re applying for BPO or telemarketing positions, fluency is utmost important.
  10. Benefits that the company will get for hiring you- All questions will be asked to figure out what else you bring to the table apart from doing well for the position. Maybe you’re a bestselling author and the company would like to see you run the company’s magazine for staffs. Your extra curriculars can also help bring good name to the company. Though, that’s secondary. First thing is that you should be suitable for the position they are hiring.
  11. Flexible to relocate or work in shifts- Do you have any reservation to moving out of Bangalore?, Will you be willing to go on-site to South Africa?, Can you work in night shifts occasionally?, etc.
