In an interview for a job, I get a question of what I'd do if I was assigned two tasks by two different managers, and only had time to complete one of them. I answered I'd only be able to finish one of them, and was told this is incorrect. Why?

The only correct answer is to confer with both managers to let them know of the conflict and have them decide what needs to be done. Don’t usurp management’s authority to decide what tasks are important or how to handle the workload.
